After almost thirty years of training and searching, I believe Dave Turton’s system of self defence is the best there is… bar none.
Here’s your chance to find out what I, and others, are raving about… for FREE!
All you have to do is tell us what you look for in a system, an instructor, or a Martial Arts/ Self Defence DVD.
What makes you think “this is it, the one system, instructor or DVD I’ve been searching for all my life”?
If you’ve already got any of Dave Turton’s DVDs please let us know what you think of them.
You can post in the comments below on this post.
And, in return for your reviews, myself and Dave will pick the five best ones and give you a downloadable copy of his ‘Ten Best Moves’ DVD.
This DVD is 40 minutes long and packed solid with usable information.
In this never before released DVD you will discover…
Shutdown, Putdown
How to stop your opponent dead in his tracks and put him down… leaving him helpless
The Angular Strike
Knock out your opponent with a slap and watch him drop like a sack of potatoes
The Face-Bar
Get your opponent in this hold and hear him cry for his mama
And much more…
The principles and techniques in this DVD will give you an unfair advantage against any opponent.
And you could get it for nothing but the time it takes for you to write a comment.
When this DVD is released as a hard copy it will go for at least $25
The last day for entry will be Monday 13th April, 2009 to give everyone a chance to enter.

Would love to study this DVD, Dave is by far the best in this field. A true master and a real gentleman….
Hey Simon,
As I said above, you could get this for nothing.
All you have to do is answer the questions and you could get a free downloadable copy.
Best,
Rezbi
Chaps, quick note before I give my answer – if you do not enter an email address then your response does not get posted and you have to start again. Not sure if there is a way of fixing this!
Secondly, thanks for the opportunity to win the DVD.
Anyway, here goes.
The main thing that I look for in an instructor is smoeone who has a history of combative success and has taken the time to analyse the reasons behind that success. This has got to be coupled with an ability to impart that knowledge to the average joe, so that someone like me can then attempt to replicate his success.
A good doer does not a good teacher make, nor does a good teacher alone do you any good.
From a pure fight perspective (as distinct from the broader self protection sphere), I want an instructor or system who can offer me drills that realistically emulate the fight, that make me both physically and mentally better-prepared to come out on top.
For me, this base has to be built first before the specific techniques can be introduced, but I’d be keen to see what Dave T’s DVD has to offer on this side of things.
Hey Mike,
Thanks for your answer.
Regarding the email, that’s left as a requirement as it’s the only way to reach someone if necessary, like if you win the DVD.
The original requirement was to register first before commenting but I took that off to make it easier to comment.
Best,
Rezbi
Hi Rezbi
Delighted to help.
My ideal course
Open hand against knife especially a knife attacker that is not just threatening you but actually striking out at you.
Open hand against gun e.g. how do you run from a gun? zig zag? run in a straight line, hit the deck etc
Open hand against club, sword, bottle etc
Multiple attack defence against three or more attackers
Using low kicks in defence from any position
Lighting escapes from holds on the floor and standing holds
Examples of kicking or striking from any position or stance
Mind set
Deceptive dialogue, deceptive movements etc
Ideal instructor Dave Turton or Lee Morrison (there are less dvds available from Lee Morrison so it
might well be having more dvds from him but Dave Turton is a brilliant instructor – I’d be happy with either)
Dave is enlightening and entertaining and inspiring. Lee Morrison also generates energy – makes students feel like training hard
Perfect DVD – something that would work for different kids women and men as well as what would work for anyone.
Best of luck!
John Watson
N.B. I would welcome Dave Turton’s 10 Moves DVD!
Thanks, John, I appreciate you posting here.
Hi – here’s some ideas for the “ideal” system based on likes and dislikes from different things I’ve studied.
The ideal self defence system would be a proven system. Systems used by the SAS, ninjas etc have a mystique and cool factor but most of us have pretty ordinary lives so something that has been taught to and used by ordinary men and women who found themselves in tight spots is much more interesting.
The system itself would be built around a base or delivery system with body mechanics and footwork. A student can be shown clever moves and tricks but unless they are given a way of deploying them against resistance they aren’t much use. As the delivery system is being built, the student should be taught a couple of basic moves they can apply that work out of the box, even just one hand strike, and a foot strike. No knives, guns, strangling etc yet – just something simple that they can develop. Depth of material is better than breadth. (The delivery system would be the “trunk” of the tree and the techniques would be branches that come from that tree so you don’t need a different set of principles or body mechanics to throw a punch, use a stick, knife etc.)
Along with this, basic training, attitude and determination should factor be factored into training and whilst most training would be about instilling good technique and body mechanics. Drills could escalate to incorporate verbal threats etc before a strike is thrown and the student should gradually start from more and more positions where they are at a disadvantage rather than facing an opponent at comfortable “sparring” range.
Students should also get used to training in street clothes rather than gis and if they are usually carrying a bag or wearing a backpack then there should be opportunities to train like that too.
Ultimately there should be some form of adrenalised testing where the student has to go all out and apply what they’ve learnt to see if they can perform under pressure. They should get feedback on what they were good at and what needs work. This would help prevent people being lulled into a false sense of security.
After a foundation course, the student should have the tools to take or retake the initiative and repel/neutralise an assailant within a limited set of assumptions (ie one aggressor, no weapons.) After this, subjects like different strikes, multiple agressors, weapons etc can be added in.
The instructor would ideally be teaching from a point of view of experience and be a realist about combat rather than a theorist. He/she should also teach the student how to train themselves when they are not in a class or seminar in terms of developing the mindset for protection, awareness and avoidance skills and physical conditioning skills.
The instructor also has to be a duty to be honest about what is taught and what kind of material is more likely to work and what is less likely to work – even if this means shying away from some of the more “crowd pleasing” work.
The instructor should also be flexible to customise training for the student rather than adopting a cookie cutter approach. A doorman and a housewife would be likely to face very different situations and even though the same delivery system/base is developed first, the tools they might learn would be different.
Just a quick update and apology.
I’m away from home and have neglected the site the last few days.
I need to get in touch with Dave to decide who gets a free copy of one of the five DVDs.
As there’s been very few entries, I personally think we can give one to each of you have actually posted answers tot he questions, but I need to confirm with Dave.
However, I’m pretty sure Dave will agree considering the type of person he is.
I’ll get an email out to the winners by next Monday at the latest.
Meanwhile, my neglect is fortunate for anyone else who may want to enter but never had the time.
If you get a good review in before I send out the emails next Monday, you could one of the winners, so get them in quick.
The main thing i look for in an instructor is integrity!
Has he been there and done it for real… IE Geoff Thompson, Dave T! Mick Gould etc etc
I have trained under them on many occassions and for me they are the real deal.
A good instructor should be able to identify a students strengths and weaknesses, he should be able to work on and improve on what a student already has under his belt. I know form experience that Dave T can certainly do this!
Does this qualify me for a chance to win a DVD? i’m not to good with the internet!
When looking for a system to use, I look for methods and techniques that I find easily applyable in different situations. I want to know that they have been pressure tested and not just look good in a training hall or on paper.
I also want to know I have the capability to perform the techniques to a good standard.
When looking for an instructor I look for someone who has a good knowledge of the system and a good experience of using the system.
I also have to have a rapport with the instructor and that s/he has to make me achieve my potential and always perform to a high standard.
Just waiting on Dave to send me his winners.
Dave and I have a slight disagreement at the moment as to who is our first winner.
I’ll update you once we’ve had a chat.
Hi Rezbi,
I like the idea of DVD’s to all who post! Please continue to support that idea!
I would love to read a manual by Dave on different aspects of street fighting and self defence. I know he has written biographical books which are great but a manual containing his knowledge and experience in relation to different street fighting and self-defence situations would be invaluable e.g. unarmed defence against a knife attack etc.
I’d be happy to pay good money for it as would many others judging by the comments from people who have studied with him or who have watched his great dvds. Please ask him to include his jokes and down to earth comments if he does get round to producing such a manual.
I am confident it would be a world best seller.
Best wishes
John Watson

Great sense of humour you’ve got there, John.
Hey guys,
Dave’s not too active at the moment due to personal circumstances, and I don’t want to bother him, either, until it’s sorted.
So, meanwhile would simon hamilton, Mike B, John Watson, Michael Lee, and Waz please send me an email with your real names as I’ve got a proposal for you I think you’ll like.
Thanks,
Rezbi
